Tips on how to travel for cheap from Belgium to the rest of Europe

Why do I think this is the best decision you could make? Well, I have been responsible for buddying some international students and I have gotten some of my most valuable friendships out of it (and free sleeping spots all over the world hahaha)! Here are some of my favorite moments from all over Europe with my international besties...

I have no doubt it will be great! I also get that you might be a bit scared or just excited it's all going to be new and you probably have no idea how it will look. Well, I got you! I filmed a tour of our school, you can even use it when you are here (so you will never get lost!). Hope you like it :)

Where to stay? I have lived alone in different parts of Belgium since I was 17. I usually stay in places all alone, but my biggest advice is, don't do this! Make sure you stay in bigger student accommodations because you will make amazing friends. Here are some options in Hasselt;

Personally, I have heard a lot of mixed reviews, mostly about the dirty kitchens. This was about the older buildings, but there is a new one (see next).

However, this is a 2-min walk from the campus and like 8 from my fav store, "Albert Hein".

This is the new UPKOT. I don't know a lot about it, but the location is amazing, it's next to KAPER, so the distance is the same!

This one is the furthest away from the campus but still very close. It's my fav! 2 Of my international friends stayed here, and this was our go-to hangout spot. We met people from around and sang songs on the sofa, had pizza parties, and played pool, ...

This one is also very close! It has 2 kitchens and a big common room, I have been here a couple of times but haven't had a lot of social interactions, so if you like that you will love this! It's not too crowded and closest to the store.

One of the best parts of Erasmus? The travel, more accurately, to travel with your newly found friends! So let me tell you a few ways to find cheap trips!

Travel with ESN
They have student deals. I went to Prague and met a dozen of international students living in Brussels, Leuven, and other parts of Hasselt,.... It was amazing!

This is my personal travel hack! I went to 6 different countries (and even more cities) with my new friends and spent a total of 800 euros.
Fly from Charleroi
Many cities have a cheaper airport a bit further away for example, Venice has Treviso, and Brussels has Charleroi. These 2 are usually a 30 euro return flight!
Be flexible!
You might have places like Rome or Paris on your mind, but there are also so many gorgeous places in cheaper countries like Albania. Just find the cheapest tickets and explore!
